Drafting Bronny James doesn’t guarantee LeBron James on your team, reveals NBA Insider
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

LeBron James has previously expressed his desire to play alongside his son, Bronny James multiple times. As James will now have a player option next season, teams might recruit Bronny in hopes of James considering a deal for their team. But NBA insider, Shams Charania revealed that the strategy would not work.

Recently, some rumors surfaced about the Los Angeles Lakers drafting Bronny James in the 2024 NBA draft to make LeBron James stay with the team. But Shams Charania during his appearance on Up & Adams revealed that James’ future will be unaffected by Bronny’s landing spot in the draft.

The answer to that is going to be no as of right now. That's not a given. That's not something that is going to be pre-ordained. Shams Charania on NBA Insider

Charania clarified that the Lakers will draft Bronny only if they find him to be a good fit for the team. The Lakers will focus on player development as Charania reported that James will play for just two more seasons. As the team is in search of a new coach, the Lakers will hire while keeping player development in mind.

Many believed that Bronny would struggle to land a spot in an NBA team considering his college resume. But things have changed after his performance at the draft combine. Many teams are showing interest in him. The only question that remains is about which path would James choose for his future.

Bronny James never thought of playing with his dad LeBron James

James’ dream is to play with his son on the same team, but Bronny has different goals. Bronny is currently working hard towards proving his eligibility to get drafted. The USC Trojans guard is doing his best in the draft combine to get recruited by a team to fulfill his dream.

During the press conference for the combine, Bronny revealed that, unlike his dad, the thought of playing with James has not crossed his mind. The young player wants to get out of James’ shadow and make an identity of his own.

My dream’s always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself, and of course, get to the NBA. Which is what everyone’s end goal is here. I’ve never thought about playing with my dad. But of course, he’s brought it up a couple of times.

Only time will tell if the NBA fans will get to see the father-son duo play together. The draft will take place June 17 as the Atlanta Hawks have the first pick this season. After being named out of the mock draft, it would be interesting to see Bronny’s landing spot in the league.
